An organization dedicated to the best interest
of everyone who enjoys ChicagoÕs Lakefront and waterways
Our
next FOMC General meeting will be at 7:30 PM, Friday, November 1st,
2002 at the
Burnham
Park Yacht Club. If you intend to
have dinner at the club please make reservations in advance.
The MOORING TAX issue will be the topic of discussion at the general meeting as well as the election of FOMC Officers and Board members. There will be no guest speakers invited, because of the nature of the meeting, the Mooring Tax. I do, however, intend to have other members of the B-O-A-T.net Committee that worked on this mooring tax issue, in attendance.
This Mooring Tax issue is one that is best-accomplished behind closed doors. We are doing just that, please do not, I repeat, DO NOT believe any rumors that may be floating around unless you hear them from FOMC, the CYA or the B-O-A-T.net Committee in an assembly. There have been too many people passing along bad information. If the wrong information gets into the hands or to the ears of those trying to add a tax on the boating community, we will all pay for this mistake? Nothing has been set in stone as of this date. We as a Committee are scheduled to meet with the discussion makers or will have met by the time this newsletter arrives at your door. I promise you we will do the absolute best to overcome what has been cast upon us as boaters on ChicagoÕs lakefront. By this November meeting we should have something to share with you, so tell your friends to be present at this meeting.
It is also time, for the election of Officers and Board members for the coming year. Rather than creating a nominating committee to pick people to serve, I would like to see some volunteers, at least one from each harbor that would like to become a Board member. It is more of an information gathering Harbor councilperson that will help keep FOMC informed of what is going on in each harbor. If you have concerns, and unless you voice your harbors opinions or complaints, they will probably go unheard. Who would you meet with to get your message across and how much of your time will it take? FOMC is the Òvoice on the lakefrontÓ. We are where you would need to be, to get things done on a continual basis. Get yourself or a friend to join FOMC and get on the Board. We meet once a month, in the winter and during the boating season the meetings are adjusted to fit the season. You will be astounded at all the things that take place on our lakefront. By being involved, you get to go to or get involved with some interesting events as well as some very renown and unique people. Please give it a try, it can only better your boating experience and enhance your knowledge of what is happening on the lakefront.
If you would like to be an Officer of FOMC than apply for the position that you feel you are suited for; President, Vice-president, Secretary or even Treasurer (accounting skills required). These positions require constant involvement, with an immense amount of devotion to the boating community.
Please submit your request to serve in one of the following ways: e-mail Ð sonny@fomc.net, Fax to 773-283-4496, or send your request to Capt. Sonny Lisowski, 3523 N. Kenton Ave, Chicago, IL 60641.
Be sure to include your: Name, address, phone, fax, e-mail, harbor, boat type (power / sail), mooring number. Most of all, the position you would like to fill, as a Board member or as an Officer. If you are concerned about your harbor and want to be the first to know what is happening on the ChicagoÕs Lakefront, than get involved with the Friends of the Marine Community. Your effort can keep boating fun, with less hassle and worry free.
Last but not lease, please contribute $10 or more to the ÒChicago Christmas ShipÓ so a needy family can have a Christmas tree for the holidays. Make checks payable to the ÒChicago Christmas ShipÓ and send it to the 3523 N. Kenton Ave. address. Remember Ò There is no Christmas without a Christmas treeÓ. Please do this now!
